Finding Fanon Two (2015) by artists Larry Achiampong and David Blandy premieres at Brighton Digital Festival

The Finding Fanon series is inspired by the lost plays of Frantz Fanon (1925-1961), a politically radical humanist whose practice dealt with the psychopathology of colonisation and the social and cultural consequences of decolonisation. Throughout the series, artists Larry Achiampong and David Blandy negotiate Fanon’s ideas, examining the politics of race, racism and decolonisation, and how these societal issues affect our relationship amidst an age of new technology, popular culture and globalisation
Finding Fanon Two collides art-house cinema with digital culture’s Machinima, resulting in a work that explores the post-colonial condition from inside a simulated environment – the Grand Theft Auto 5 in-game video editor. This video work combines several stories, including how the artists’ familial histories relate to colonial history, an examination of how their relationship is formed through the virtual space, and thoughts on the implications of the post-human condition.
The work will be showcased at an evening of discussion around the post-colonial, the digital and the post-human at Fabrica in Brighton, on 16 September 2015, where the artists will be joined by art historian, critic and curator Christine Eyene.

Pan African Space Station (PASS) Pop-up Radio at Fondation Cartier, Paris 17-19 Sept

Dedicated to culture, art and politics, panafrican magazine Chimurenga sets up its alternative web radio Pan African Space Station within the walls of Fondation Cartier. Three days of live performances and discussions with personalities from diverse horizons providing a lively variety show, punctuated with concerts and performances.

A Live Web Radio with guests including: Andy Amadi Okoroafor, BALOJI, Jean-Pierre Bekolo, Helmie Bellini, Marie-Louise Bibish Mumbu, Dinozord, Christine Eyene, Phil Hilfiker, Kongo Astronauts, MO LAUDI, Ray Lema, Dizzy Mandjeku, Papy Maurice Mbwiti, Méga Mingiedi, Sabrina Moella, Mwezé Ngangura, Jolie Ngemi, Blaise Ndjehoya, Pascale Obolo, Hilaire Penda, Lucas Silva DJ Champeta-Man, Bintou Simpore, and Binetou Sylla.

This edition of the Pan African Space Station POP-UP studio in Paris has been developed in collaboration with the Fondation Cartier for the exhibition “Beauté Congo, 1926-2015, Congo Kitoko”.

FRAC Réunion appoints new director

FRAC Réunion (Fonds Régional d’Art Contemporain) has appointed Béatrice Binoche as its new director, leading to the composition of a new committee which members include critics and curators Anaïd Demir and Christine Eyene, and artist Yohann Queland de Saint-Pern. The committee is in charge of supporting the implementation of the FRAC’s new vision and acquisition policies along a threefold orientation that includes supporting creation, structuring and developing the collection. Pieces from FRAC collections are currently included in the exhibition “A Republic of Art” at Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven, until 4 October.

Intense Art Magazine, IAM ART & FASHION launches in Douala, Cameroon

Founded by Angèle Etoundi Essamba and Céline Seror, Intense Art Magazine is a printed publication and online platform celebrating women in the fields of visual arts, fashion, design and architecture in Africa. After launching in Europe last year, IAM now launches in Cameroon with a series of events including:
– a group exhibition with works by: Kristine Tsala, Aza Mansongi, Ginette Daleu, Sarah Tchouatcha, Ruth Belinga, Justine Gaga, Angèle Etoundi Essamba, Boris Nzebo, Hervé Yamguen, Romuald Dikoumé.
– a display by 6 fashion designers organised under the aegis of Vlisco: Florence Amanoga Oloumou, Yapumfout Pasma, Martha Ccolque, Anrette Ngafor, Nakuin Kouidou et Yves Tchinda.

Are also planned encounters, debates, screenings and presentations around fashion (2 Oct.) and visual arts (4-5 Oct.) with special guest Barthélémy Toguo, artist and founder of Bandjoun Station art centre, who has created a new piece for this event.
