Happy 2019 !
2018 drew to a close with a very busy season. The Summer of Photography 2018 at Bozar (June to August) was followed by the loan of works by South African photographer George Hallett as part of the Nelson Mandela centenary celebrations, the participation of our photography platform Yaounde Photo Network (YPN) at UNSEEN Amsterdam (September), and the International Biennial of Casablanca (October-December 2018).
The winter break was a great opportunity to recharge our batteries for the year ahead. We’ve got a number of events lined-up in our calendar as organisers, participants or visitors. Our projects and collaborations include talks with artists Delaine Le Bas (Yamamoto Keiko Rochaix, London), Shiraz Bayjoo (New Art Exchange, Nottingham), Hank Willis Thomas (Bozar, Brussels); the launch of the International Biennial of Casablanca’s incubator with a programme of events at the biennial’s project space that will open to the public next April; the touring of our sound art exhibition Sounds Like Her in England; and our ongoing academic project on George Hallett.
Our current call for artists is open to Moroccan, African and Diaspora video artists wishing to take part in Digital Africa, our video art screening and exhibition that will take place in Casablanca next April. Find out more here, deadline Friday 1st February 2019.
Among our 2019 highlights are: 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair in Marrakech notably the Forum taking its cue from the work of African American artist Ted Joans, the Sharjah Biennial, the Venice Biennale, The Otolith Group’s exhibition at Van Abbemuseum, Lubaina Himid’s solo exhibition at the New Museum, the 7th Max Mara Art Prize for Women exhibition at the Whitechapel Gallery with winner Helen Cammock, the Toronto Biennial of Art, and more…
