Christine Eyene to curate French Institute Cameroon 2027 Season

Institut français du Cameroun has announced the nomination of Christine Eyene as curator of its 2027 cultural season.
Christine Eyene is a French-Cameroonian art historian and curator based in Liverpool (UK) where she is co-director of Exhibition Research Lab (ERL) Gallery at Liverpool John Moores University, and research curator at Tate Liverpool; and Lolodorf (Cameroon) where she is developing Bikoka Art Project.
Her latest exhibition George Hallett: Home and Exile is currently on show at ERL Gallery until July 2026. She also guest edited the Survey of Mousse 95, focusing on women artists in the Black arts movement in Britain, a special issue of the art magazine launching at the 61st Venice Biennale.
Eyene will conceive a cultural programme based on the theme of “Site(s)”, reaching beyond visual arts to encompass multidisciplinary fields. This broad approach will be reflected through a programme that will expand beyond Yaounde and Douala to include other regions of Cameroon. The curatorial project will bring together creatives from France, Cameroon, and the Indian Ocean. It will also provide an opportunity to foster further collaborations between Cameroonian and international art scenes.
Institut français du Cameroun’s cultural season is a new programme format initiated in 2025 by its new director. The first edition, curated by philosopher and author Aliocha Wald Lasowski, launched in January 2026. Titled “Le Tout-Monde”, it is dedicated to Édouard Glissant.
