Conversation: Elijah Ndoumbe and Christine Eyene

From 14 to 17 November, Cinémathèque idéale des banlieues du monde (Ideal Cinematheque of the World’s Suburbs) takes up residence at mk2 Bibliothèque × Centre Pompidou (Paris) for a weekend of programming dedicated to cinematic and heritage issues of real and symbolic peripheral territories.
Elijah Ndoumbe, multidisciplinary artist and director of the short film Prayer for Sweet Waters, presented at Sundance Film Festival 2022, invited Christine Eyene, an art historian, critic, and curator whose work focuses on African arts, its diasporas, and feminism, for a public conversation on Saturday 15 November at 18.30. Together, they will delve into Between Love and Hate, a project developed as part of this year’s Young Creation Workshop. The discussion will be moderated by Clément Postec, artistic director and exhibition curator.
Founded in 2020 and supported by the Centre Pompidou and Ateliers Médicis, Cinémathèque idéale des banlieues du monde proposes to narrate peripheries through diverse cinematic perspectives, drawing attention to the richness of the forms produced around the “world’s suburbs”. The programme comprises over three hundred films, hosts an annual workshop, undertakes restoration and production support projects, and fosters research through a dedicated online platform.
