Delaine Le Bas in conversation with Christine Eyene + Performance

Yamamoto Keiko Rochaix is pleased to present an evening of events as a part of Delaine Le Bas current solo exhibition Tutis A Rinkeni Moola, Abri.

Born in Worthing (UK) where she lives and works, Delaine Le Bas is a multidisciplinary artist working across installation, performance, photography and film. Her practice is informed by her long-term collaboration with her late husband, the artist Damian Le Bas, with whom she notably worked on the Safe European Home? Gypsy Revolution and Gypsy DaDa projects. Together they produced the stage artworks and costumes for the theatre musical Roma Armee for Gorki Berlin (2017). Le Bas also worked with their son, the writer Damian James Le Bas, in creating text-based performance works. Le Bas’s artistic endeavour extends into curating. She was one the curators of the first Roma Biennale held at Gorki Berlin in 2018. She is also an associate curator at 198 Contemporary Arts & Learning (London) and curator at Roma Trial (Berlin).

Delaine Le Bas was recently part of the ANTI-Athens Biennale in 2018. That same year, she also had a solo exhibition entitled Untouchable Gypsy Witch at Transmission Gallery, Glasgow. She also featured in group shows at the 3^rd Project Biennial of Contemporary Art D-0 Ark Underground Bosnia & Herzegovina (2015), MWW Wroclaw Contemporary Art Museum (2014), National Gallery of Zimbabwe (2014), Zacheta National Gallery of Art (2013), Gwangju Biennale (2012). She was part of Paradise Lost, the First Roma Pavilion at the 52^nd Venice Biennale (2007).

Delaine Le Bas will be in conversation with art historian and curator Christine Eyene. The talk will be followed by a performance.

This evening coincides with the February edition of the First Thursdays, late opening organised by the Whitechapel Gallery.
