Opening this month: Carte de Visite at Hollybush Gardens, an exhibition curated by Lubaina Himid featuring new work by Helen Cammock, Claudette Johnson and Ingrid Pollard (preview 3 Dec). Conversation between Lubaina Himid and Christine Eyene on the making of this exhibition and new developments in the artists practice (5 Dec, 2.00 pm).

The Peltz Gallery, Birkbeck’s School of Art’s exhibition space, currently features Positive Living: Art and AIDS in South Africa. Curated by Annie Coombes, the project includes works by Gideon Mendel, Penny Siopis, Sue Williamson, Keiskamma Art Project and more… Alongside the exhibition is planned a series of conferences, next up: Women and HIV/AIDS in South Africa: Medicine, Art, Activism (7 Dec). Julien Creuzet, Standard & Poor’s – Revolution, 2012.

A number of events are programmed at Delfina Foundation as part of their season 2 of The Public Domain including a presentation by Paris-based Cameroonian curator Elise Atangana entitled “Before Seven Hills”, dealing with the topic of mobilities: movement, representation and practice (9 Dec). This event ties in with Atangana’s ongoing research ahead of her ‘Seven Hills’ project to be presented at the 2nd Kampala Biennale in 2016.

Ambika P3

Leading up to the season’s break, the London Contemporary Music Festival at Ambika P3 (11-17 Dec) will launch with Collective Capital, a series of sound sessions highlighting the London scene with a number of world premieres including Poulomi Desai’s Vermillion Sands (2015). The second evening is dedicated to the American West Coast, exploring nearly 100 years of musical non-conformism, “from the piano insurrections of Henry Cowell to the deep listening of Pauline Oliveros”. Calls and opportunities

Conceived in a live arts format, the Ghetto Biennale 2015 takes place this month, starting off with a programme of screenings and performances (14 – 20 Dec), followed by an exhibition and a congress. The Ghetto Biennale is one of the projects selected as part of Art Basel Miami’s Crowdfunding Lab, looking to raise funds to produce a catalogue documenting its first four editions. The Dak’Art Biennale is welcoming applications from artists for its 12th edition curated by Simon Njami. The biennale is scheduled to take place from 3 May to 2 June 2016. Interested artists can download the application forms on Dak’Art website. Deadline 21 Dec.
